This large illustrated book is a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, created with the co-creator of the legendary festival, Michael Lang. It contains hundreds of photos and documents, accompanied by Lang's fascinating memories and insights into the most famous and successful festival of all time, with images of Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Richie Havens, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Santana, Janis Joplin, Joan Baez, Country Joe McDonald and the Grateful Dead. Memorabilia from Lang's largely unknown archive includes the original drafts and plans for the event, correspondence, set lists, information on artists' fees, and much more. This wealth of information is accompanied by the best photos of the event by photographers such as Ralph Ackerman, John Dominis, Bill Eppridge, Dan Garson, Barry Z. Levine, Ken Regan, Lee Marshall and Baron Wolman, and in particular the archive of Henry Diltz. Diltz was the only official photographer at Woodstock and was there for two weeks, from an empty cow pasture to the initial construction and arrival of the crowds to the aftermath. He also captured stage performances and behind-the-scenes moments with many of the artists involved.

Wolman captured the experience and atmosphere of Woodstock like no other photographer. In the end, he spent most of his time in the wilderness doing it. He was more interested in the audience than the artists, his photos are extremely impressive and offer a rarely seen insight into this legendary event. "The thing to remember from the '60s, even towards the end of 1969, was that everything was completely different, the behavior was new and unexpected. Plus, the 1960s were just incredibly photogenic in every way imaginable... the changes that took place in people's minds were visually manifested here. I mean, how could you not take the pictures?'

Wolman hat das Erlebnis und die Atmosphäre von Woodstock wie kein anderer Fotograf eingefangen. Am Ende habe er die meiste Zeit in der Wildnis damit verbracht.
