Michael Zagaris

Michael Zagaris’ rock ‘n’ roll photographs are among the best portraits and backstage images of their kind. Since most of his photographs were taken for pleasure rather than for payment, most of his archive remained unseen while he was busy with his day job as team photographer for both the San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland Athletics.

“Michael Zagaris became a photographer almost by accident. The fact that he is naturally
gifted with a camera surely helped but being a great photographer, especially a rock and roll photographer, requires so much more than talent or the ability to
take a picture,” says Dave Brolan, photo editor legend.

“I never thought I was a photographer but I always took pictures. Initially it served as an entrée to the music scene, shooting bands I liked and the people who followed them. (…) It was a lifestyle, a way of life. For the most part I was hanging with like-minded people, who looked the way I did, liked the things I did and thought the way I did. It has never been a job, it’s a passion.” – Michael Zagaris
